It all started when…

The Kasigau Foundation was established in 2007 after a visit from Fleur de Vries to the Kasigau region in 2006. There, she decided to help the community by supporting the set up of a local bakery. After this proved to be a succes, the Kasigau Foundation was born.
There are now seven board members in Rotterdam and Amsterdam, more than 100 monthly donors and dozens of projects implemented. However, we focus on remaining a small-scale organisation that wants to make a big difference in Kasigau through the support of small projects.

WHERE…

Mount Kasigau is located in the South-East of Kenya. Around this mountain there are 5 villages with a total population of around 12,000. Rukanga is the largest village with quite a few shops and also the only village with a high school. Initially Kasigau Foundation concentrated on the 5 villages, however the last years we expanded in the wider region. We are now active in approximately 20 villages. We therefore believe that we can offer effective and targeted assistance to the population without wasting any money on intermediaries.

SaY WHAT…

Many different projects have been implemented in the past years. In principle, these projects are selected on the basis of available resources with the priority being water, as drought is still one of the major problems in the region. The first watertank was realized in 2009, after which many others followed.

Another focus area is education. The Sponsor a Child project started in 2010 and allows donors to financially support a child for a period of four years to give him/her to opportunity to go to high school. In the meantime, 38 children received a scholarship out of which 33 have already graduated from high school and 22 have completed further education in our Built Your Future program. Each year we will continue to sponsor new children. We also contribute to study materials and school uniforms.

The aim of the Kasigau Foundation is to support the region through water supplies and school projects. The Foundation has no profit motive. In addition, we would like to emphasize that the board members are not reimbursed for their work and all trips to Kasigau are made on their own expense.
